MEET OUR FOUNDER :
‘Isabelle Weiss of NEXT:SPACE is the de facto contemporary design guru of Detroit.’ - Architectural Digest
NEXT:SPACE was founded in Detroit, Michigan by design curator and agent, Isabelle Weiss.
Isabelle began her career working with mid-20th century art and design, first as an appraiser, later as the director of a boutique international auction house.
Isabelle's work with mid century fine art and furniture led to her interest in contemporary design, specifically helping Detroit designers carry on Michigan's legacy of important design.
In 2014, Isabelle established NEXT:SPACE as a platform for local studio furniture designers to develop, exhibit and sell their work.
Working with over a dozen designers, Isabelle has produced exhibitions, managed custom commission projects and held successful pop-up shops throughout Detroit, developing NEXT:SPACE into the premiere platform dedicated to studio design from local furniture, textile, lighting and object designers working in their studio and locally-based, small-scale fabrication shops.
While building NEXT:SPACE, Isabelle has worked with other local markets including real estate, architecture and interior design - always promoting the importance of Detroit art and design.
In addition to NEXT:SPACE, the highlight of Isabelle's work has been the completion of a year-long project with Broder and Sachse Real Estate to curate and commission site specific artwork for The Scott at Brush Park. The 30-piece collection features established and emerging Detroit artists, highlighting the exceptional design of the building and engaging residents with their community. Artists featured in the collection include: Jef Bourgeau, Matt Eaton, Joseph Konert, Erik and Israel Nordin, Paula Schubatis, Lisa Spindler and zuckerhosen.
With NEXT:SPACE, Isabelle continues to connect local design with an ever-growing range of clients, furthering Michigan's legacy iconic design in Detroit and beyond.
Isabelle's interest in art, design and economics began at Cranbrook - where she graduated from the Cranbrook Kingswood Upper School - and continued throughout her studies at the University of Michigan, from which she received a BA in The History of Art and Linguistics.
Isabelle is also the founder of CLLCTR Anonymous - a comprehensive curatorial agency consulting on art and design acquisitions - she is also a contributing design writer for Detroitisit and other publications.
