'SHAPE: Defining furniture in Michigan's design legacy' opens at the Shinola Flagship Store in Midtown, Detroit as part of Detroit's Month of Design. SHAPE is a part of the Michigan Design Icons Series produced by NEXT:SPACE and TOM GIBBS STUDIO and features a selection of mid century and contemporary furniture curated around five practices of good design. Our showroom re-opens with the eponymous zuckerhosen exhibition, debuting the first collection from the experimental studio art and design duo.
Featuring bespoke, one-of-a-kind, seating, tables, lighting and wall pieces, the zuckerhosen Solo Exhibition, presents 'modern partial artifacts'. Through the experimentation of materials including steel, clay, glass, wood, leather, gold and metal leaf, the provoking forms of zuckerhosen simultaneously recall feelings of the familiar and unknown. Viewing and contemplating each ethereal object, the collector transforms into an archeologist, feeling as though artifacts from a lost culture have been unearthed - their intended use and meaning somehow obscured.
